Cnet is a free service, you can join for free. Cnet has a team of qualified reviewers who specialize in different areas of technology and write the reviews for that area. eSchool News is a monthly publication. Subscription cost is $72.00/year for non-educators, educators can recieve a complimentary subscription. You can subscribe to the digital edition for free. It is a free website, no subscription is required. The reviews are written by teams that include educators, parents, and children from across the United States. The staff includes experts from Stanford, Harvard and Northwestern universities. It is sponsored by a private company, Knowledge Share LLC. They rate software based on a set of standard criteria.

The common criteria include ease of use, installation issues, manual usefulness, sound quality, and graphics quality. The ratings include; educational appeal, kid appeal, ease of use, bottom line, and system requirements. Each section is given a rating on a 5 point scale, averaging all the reviewers ratings.
